Parent Governor Vacancy
We currently have a vacancy for a parent governor. Parent governors are elected by and from the parents of children currently attending our school. They serve a four-year term of office and bring a very important and valued perspective to the work of the governing body.
The governing body has a vital role to play in making sure every child receives the best possible education. This is achieved by ensuring that governors have the necessary skills and commitment to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school. The particular skills that governing bodies need will vary and will include personal qualities and capabilities, such as the ability and willingness to learn and work as part of a team. It is expected that governors will make use of the various training opportunities available to them and play a full part in the work of the governing body.
Most governing body meetings are held once a half term on Tuesday evening at 5pm and are usually last from 2 hours to 2.5 hours; training sessions are usually incorporated into these meetings, although some additional online training is also required. It’s not all meetings, normally governors do have the opportunity to come into the school to see the work that is going on and are often invited to join in events and celebrations.
Whilst previous experience of school governance is useful, this is by no means a pre-requisite for this role as full support and induction training is provided. Most importantly, we seek a parent governor who has a passion for the inclusive education that Bassett Green Primary School provides and is keen to work in a supportive but challenging way with the Senior Leadership of the school, to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality education for children of families in our local community.
Please note Governors are required to complete a short application form and are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
If you are interested in becoming a governor and wish to discuss this, please contact Vikki Maxwell on vmaxwell@bassettgreen.net. Applications will need to be submitted by 12.00 noon on Friday 5th February 2021.
