Spelling is taught using the scheme Spelling Shed.  This scheme equips children with the skills they need to become effective spellers including:

• Phonological knowledge
• Orthographic knowledge
• Morphological knowledge
• Etymological knowledge
• Visual knowledge

The focus of Spelling Shed is on the teaching of spelling, which embraces knowledge of spelling conventions – patterns and rules; but integral to the teaching is the opportunity to promote the learning of spellings including common exception words. The scheme has a clear progression across the year groups.
