Spring 1: Volcanoes (dynamics)
Performance: Bats class with Noah conducting. Audacity didn't pick up the dynamics but it worked when each pupil used their own laptops

Year 3 - trying to use dynamics for the volcano song!
Step 5: Ayomide's composition

Step 5: Isabella's composition

Step 5: Elijah is trying hard to follow dynamics. The class gave him a clap

Step 4: We tried playing using dynamics - it is very hard but Amelia had a go.

Step 4: Milan tried playing this Dragon song for the first time today - isn't he amazing!

Step 3: a first try at a playalong to the music video for the whole class - very hard but we are trying hard with the rhythm

Step 3: Umar's great example

Step 3: Milan is using the piano - next steps to use more than one finger!

Step 3: Penny chose to use the new glockenspiels without coloured notes

Step 3: Olivia needs to think about pitch for the loud part next

Step 2: The same rhythms but we chose the instruments we thought would work well - Bats class

Step 2 - two different rhythms with body percussion - Hedgehogs class

Step 1: starting to create our own dynamics patterns as a group - Bats table 3

Step 1: listening to dynamics in Mussorgsky's Night on a Bare Mountain and trying to create our own with body percussion - Hedgehogs Class

What's it like when volcanoes blow?
This is something you ought to know
Pressure builds without interruption
Then explodes in a volcanic eruption
When volcanoes erupt, here's what they do:
The pressure makes ash and lava spew
Boulders can get thrown through the air
Move back – don't stand and stare!
It's letting off pressure
It's not going to wait
Is going to get to that balanced state
Where forces are equal - equilibrium
Then the pressure starts building up again..
What's it like..
Remember this from your science classes
A volcanoes forces are magma and gases
The underground pressure gets too high
And the volcano blows up in the sky
What's it like…
A long, long time ago, there was a volcano
Living all alone in the middle of the sea He sat high above his bay watching all the couples play And wishing that he had someone too And from his lava came this song of hope that he sang Out loud every day for years and years
I have a dream I hope will come true
That you're here with me and I'm here with you I wish that the earth, sea, and the sky up above-a Will send me someone to lava
Years of singing all alone turned his lava into stone
Until he was on the brink of extinction But little did he know that living in the sea below Another volcano was listening to his song Every day she heard his tune, her lava grew and grew Because she believed his song was meant for her Now she was so ready to meet him above the sea As he sang his song of hope for the last time
I have a dream I hope will come true
That you're here with me and I'm here with you I wish that the earth, sea, and the sky up above-a Will send me someone to lava
Rising from the sea below stood a lovely volcano
Looking all around but she could not see him He tried to sing to let her know that she was not there alone But with no lava, his song was all gone He filled the sea with his tears and watched his dreams disappear As she remembered what his song meant to her
I have a dream I hope will come true
That you're here with me and I'm here with you I wish that the earth, sea, and the sky up above-a Will send me someone to lava
Oh, they were so happy to finally meet above the sea
All together now, their lava grew and grew No longer are they all alone with aloha as their new home And when you visit them, this is what they sing
I have a dream I hope will come true
That you'll grow old with me, and I'll grow old with you We thank the earth, sea, and the sky we thank tooI lava you I lava you I lava you
