Wherever possible, medical appointments (including GP, dentist, optician, or hospital visits) should be arranged outside of school hours. We understand this is not always possible; however, leaving school during lessons can be disruptive to learning.
If a child has a medical appointment during morning or afternoon registration, the absence will be recorded using an M Code. This is classed as an authorised absence but does still affect attendance figures.
To allow us to authorise the absence, please provide the school with a copy of the appointment letter or confirmation. This may be in the form of a letter, email or text notification from the GP/Dentist surgery.
What if you still continue to receive an absence notification from the school?
If you receive a follow up email from the school after reporting an absence - this may be due to your message not recording.
Reasons you may still be asked to contact the school:
Please be aware the absence will be recorded as unauthorised until we receive a valid reason.
