  • Year 6 Spanish

Year 6 are in their fourth year of learning Spanish here at Bassett Green Primary School!

    Autumn 2025 - Spring 2026

We are learning the locations of some cities in Spain and also learning the names for places in town. We looked back at some adjectives we learned to describe sports and hobbies and added some new ones that work well to describe places in town.

Our outcome is to write descriptions of Spanish cities and create a triarama showing the description and the places in the city.

Here are the pupils' triaramas from Spring 2026. Well done Year 6!

    Spring - Summer Term 2026

We are listening to a song telling a traditional fairy story in Spanish. We are improving listening and dictionary skills by identifying key vocabulary and editing the song into a story, and then we are improving our reading skills by telling the story of the Sleeping Beauty in Spanish.  Listen to the song:

We completed this unit last before the Covid pandemic. Here are children from year 6 in 2020 reading the story. Choose a video to watch:

We also improved our dictionary skills further by replacing the main characters and some other key nouns and adjectives to create and read our own version of a (crazy) fairy story. We used pictures to act the story for other children to enjoy.

    Previous units of learning:

    Clothes - La ropa

We are learning lots of clothes nouns and can join in with a song about clothes. We can describe the colour of an item of clothing and can state what we like to wear in different weather.

We began preparation for making concertina characters wearing what we described in Spanish.

Here are some examples of work from the 2020-21 academic year:

    Writing a letter

We are reading a formal letter from footballer Fernando Torres introducing himself, including all the language we have been learning since year 3. We are using the letter to help us create a letter from footballer Ferran Torres, before writing a letter of introduction from ourselves to our secondary school Spanish teacher.

Easter in Spain - Pascua en España

Before the Easter break, we are looking at a traditional Spanish Easter cake recipe in Spanish. We found out the ingredients and looked for Spanish instruction verbs in the dictionary. The recipe is in the powerpoint below. Watch the video of how to make these delicious buns on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SlE7uIYftQ

    Asking and answering questions

We are preparing and practising interviews, which include all the questions and answers we have learnt since year 3. Lots of us are choosing to disguise ourselves with hats, scarves, masks and other costumes.

    Autumn 2024

We learned the names of family members and revised how to introduce ourselves. Here are our descriptions of ourselves and a family member:

    Kestrels
