Welcome to Seahorses Class!
We ask that you send into school a named sun hat and sun cream during hot weather. Your child has access to their own bottle of water all day and they will be encouraged to drink regularly.
PE is on a Wednesday and Thursday every week. All children need a PE kit on these days.
Read with your child:
On FRIDAY mornings you are welcome to stay and read with your child.
Please check your child's book bag every evening as there may be important letters inside.
I have added a link to maths games at the bottom of our class page. Lots of these games we use in class so the children will be familiar with them.
On Monday 27th June we are going to the farm! If you haven't already handed in your reply slip and donation it is very important that you do. Without the reply slip your child will not be able to go.
Sports Day 2016
Thank you for supporting sports day this year! All of the class had their PE kit and nearly all had a coloured t-shirt! Unfortunately the rain got in the way this year but I have added some photos for you to see what we got up to. The children were brilliantly behaved and should be proud of their achievements.
Hopefully the sun will shine for next years! :)
I'm not sure where the time has gone but we are about to start our final half term of the academic year and your child is nearing the end of their time in Seahorse class. This half term is a busy one! We start back with a topic called "To infinity and beyond!" where we are learning all about space in which we will explore the story 'Whatever Next!'. After learning about space we move onto our animals topic and this will also include a school trip to a farm (a letter will be with you soon!). This half term will also bring with it transition events preparing your child for their next adventure as they move into year 1.
Miss Hawkins :)
The Queens 90th Birthday!
On Friday 10th June the whole school joined together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday. We made crowns, flags, bunting and even place mats. Then we all ate together as a school with lots of music and balloons. It was really good fun and the sun was shining too!
We are really enjoying our pirate topic and have made lots of hats, telescopes, maps and even parrots! There will be a pirate dress up day coming soon so please remember to check your child's book bag for letters.
Here is a picture of Tia being a pirate!
Welcome back to school, we have a busy and exciting term ahead of us. We are starting off the summer term with our pirates project. Today Miss Hawkins had a big treasure chest and showed us the chocolate coins inside. We were very excited about eating them for golden time, Miss Hawkins said we had to look after the treasure chest but then a pirate ran into our classroom and stole the treasure! We made wanted posters to find the pirate.
This half term we are learning trigraphs (three letters making one sound) igh (light), air,(hair) ear (fear), ure (sure) Because these can be a little tricky we'll be going over these for a while. There will also be opportunities for you to come into school and see one of your child's phonics lessons.
Yesterday Mrs McIntyre brought her baby rabbits in to meet us. First we learnt all about spring and about all the baby animals that are born this time of year, then we talked about our own pets and how we look after them. We came up with rules about how to be around baby rabbits. We used quiet voices and gentle hands. They were tiny and sleepy but very cute.
This week Seahorses have been making Easter cakes. We looked at the instructions and used them to make some lovely, yummy cakes! Next week we will be talking all about why Christians celebrate Easter and making some Easter cards. The Seahorse team wish you all a happy spring break and look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 11th April at 8:50am. See below for the instructions we used to make our cakes and the finished product!
World Book Day!
Thank you for joining in and dressing up for World Book Day. We spent the day moving around all of the year R and year 1 classrooms doing different activities about the story Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. We then went to the hall for a "cinema" treat and watched the film of the book.
Welcome back to school! The sun is shining (most days) and we are already getting back into some really fun learning.
On Monday we had a visit from Pecky the chicken. She is Mrs Roberts' pet so is very friendly, she had some corn to eat and flapped her wings at us. She even escaped from the pen and Miss Hawkins had to catch her - which we all found very funny!
Please take a look at our pictures of Pecky and ask us about when she came to school. We really enjoyed her visit.
In English we will be reading The Little Red Hen and talking about the characters as well as describing them. We will even be baking some tasty bread! If you have this story at home it would be lovely if you could share it with your child.
In Maths we are looking at our calculation skills including subtraction and halving. Maybe when you're making sandwiches or eating a cake you could talk about how to cut them in half.
In Phonics we are revisiting our phase 3 sounds and focusing on blending the sounds to read words.
I look forward to seeing you all at parents evening on the 3rd March.
Miss Hawkins and The Seahorse Team.
Its getting very chilly outside so we ask that you send your child in with gloves, scarf and a hat as we are still going outside everyday! Don't forget to name them so we can ensure they don't go missing.
Many thanks, Miss Hawkins:)
Happy New Year!
The Seahorses team would like to wish all of the children and their families a happy new year, we hope you've had a restful break and the children are excited to come back to school.
This term our topic will be winter. We will be reading various stories set in winter and learning how to describe what we see.
What can I do at home?
Whilst on your way to school you could ask your child about the weather. Is it cold? Is it raining?
When you are getting dressed; you could talk about why you need a jumper, coat, scarf, hat or gloves?
We have learnt all our single sounds and will be recapping these in our first week back.
What can I do at home?
Look over their sound mat. (Sound mats were given out at parents evening but please do ask for one if you would like another copy.)
You could ask your child what sound they have learnt today.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 5th January at 8:50am
We have PE with Miss Hayes on a Wednesday and Thursday. It is very important that we have our PE kits with us on these days.
Reading books are changed by Mrs White on a Friday. Please ensure that you have signed to say that you have read with your child or we won't be able to issue a new book.
We go outside for at least all afternoon every day (Unless the weather is very bad). It is very important that you send your child to school in a coat.
