Helping Children Learn

Meet the Governors

Welcome from the Governors of Bassett Green Primary School

Thank you for visiting our site. Here is information on our Governing Board and how we carry out our roles. You can read reports on our activities in the attached documents at the foot of this page.

The Governors, like the staff and parents, consider each child to be at the heart of all we do. The School Vision sets out our aims to ensure that every child feels safe and happy in an environment that encourages them to enjoy learning and fulfil their full potential.

We encourage communication between the Governing Body and parents, carers and the community. Should you wish to contact the Chair or other members of the Governing Board, please email on masmith_dell@outlook.com or Chair@bassettgren.net

What is our role in the school?

Working together with the Headteacher, we are responsible for strategic and long-term decisions about the school. Our responsibilities include:

· setting high educational standards and targets for school improvement;

· appointing the Headteacher and reviewing staff performance and pay;

· offering support and advice;

· ensuring the school vision and values reflect the needs of parents, children and community;

· providing an environment where pupils can work in a caring, safe and inclusive place; managing the finances of the school;

· helping to develop school policies.

How do we carry out our business?

We are a corporate body which means no governor can act on their own without proper authority from the full Governing Board; and all governors carry equal responsibility for decisions made. Although appointed through different routes, the prime concern of all governors is the welfare of the school.

We have considerable discretion as to how to undertake our responsibilities but are required to constitute ourselves in line with the School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2003 and to appoint a Chair and Vice-Chair. Governors are drawn from different parts of the community, and at Bassett Green Primary School our Governing Board is made up of staff, parents, a governor nominated by the Local Authority and co-opted members of the Community. This helps to ensure that we have sufficient diversity of views and experience.

We carry out our business mainly through formal meetings of the full board of governors and have two sub-committees that report to the Board: Finance & Human Resources (Chaired by Allison Hendry) and Curriculum Standards/Outcomes & Pupil Premium (led by Deputy Headteacher Jemma Dudgeon).

Each governor has a special link role and we regularly visit to the school to meet with staff and pupils to discuss our areas of responsibility and to consider the school’s progress and future needs. Governors also undertake ‘Learning Walks’ to see the whole school in operation and attend school events and functions to meet parents.
