Keeping Up With The Kids


A summer term course on Thursday mornings for parents with KS1 children. Learning is a lifelong activity! If you would like to find out how you can help your child with their education, and learn some new skills for yourself, then our Keeping Up With The Kids course could be for you. This 10 week course will help you understand more about how your child learns and will give you ideas to encourage their development at home. The course is fun and very 'hands-on' as you will make resources to use at home, and get ideas from the teacher on how to support your child in  different areas of learning . Safe, Talk, Thrive


Women's Aid will be running a series of workshops for women and children who have experienced difficult relationships with a view to moving forwards to safe healthy relationships. For more details please contact Jeni on 02380 676262.



Incredible Years


Incredible Years is a 13 week positive parenting course to help you have fun with your kids, help them learn and reduce stress at home with positive discipline strategies. The course is running in the summer term from Monday April 16th 12.45-2.45 pm at Swaythling Sure Start. Free course with free crèche.



Coffee Group


Every Friday term time, we have a parents coffee group in the staff room from 9.00-10.00 am. Come along, have a cuppa, a biscuit and a chat. We sometimes have speakers on topics of interest. Upcoming topics:


February 9th Sleep Workshop with particular focus on anxiety

February 16th School closed for half term.

February 23rd School Nurse Workshop on childhood anxiety

March 2nd -inset day, no group

March 9th -Science Workshop

March 16th -Sleep Workshop 

March 23rd -parent led discussion

Friday March 30th, April 6th, April 13th  -school closed.

April 27th School Nurse Workshop on puberty and supporting children through changes in yrs 5/6.



Creative Club


Every Friday from 1-3 pm we have Creative Club for parents in the community room at Sure Start Swaythling. This is a great opportunity to learn how to knit, crochet or sew, no previous knowledge required. If you are already experienced please come along and share your talents! If you would like to draw, colour or do other crafts or just join for a chat you are very welcome. This is a nice end of week quiet space for parents before the weekend gets going!



Courses Currently Running:


Families Connect


This is our fun interactive course for parents and children together. The course started on January 22nd, runs for 8 weeks and supports children with social skills, literacy and numeracy. Parents learn a topic and then are joined by their children for a fun activity and snack. Activities are designed so they can be replicated at home for the whole family to take part.



Employability Workshop -CV Writing, Interviews, Supporting Your Job Search


2 sessions of tailored support in a small friendly group.

Started Wed 31st January 9.30-11.30 am.



English As An Additional Language


Intermediate English starting 15th Jan 2018 every Monday morning term time.

9.30-11.30 am.

Level 2 Support Work In Schools

Started on Tuesday January 9th 9.15-12.15, our 23 week level 2 course  is accredited through Eastleigh College. No work placement is necessary to undertake the course. No crèche. Information session was December 8th at 9 am in the school staffroom. This course is now full.

Confidence Course


If you want to look and feel more confident, learn to think positively and take control of your comfort zone then join this course and feel the difference.

3 week course with crèche started Wednesday 10th January 9.30-11.30 am.


Learn English To Help Your Child Learn In School

Healthy Cookery


6 week course started Tuesday September 26th 9.30-11.30 am. Make delicious food and take it home with you. No crèche. To book your place please call into Swaythling Sure Start reception.


Confidence and Wellbeing Course


An introduction to goal setting, life balance, exercise, healthy eating, massage, meditation, confidence building and dealing with negative emotions. 6 week course with crèche started Wednesday 1st November 9.30-11.30 am.


Learn English To Help Your Child Learn In School

Sew and Create! Mend and Make!


Creative course ideal for the run up to the holiday period:

Week 1 Personalising items with cross stitch.

Week 2 Personalising items with appliqué letters.

Week 3 Simple clothes alterations: hemming and buttons.

Week 4 Personalising items with fabric pens and paints.

Week 5 Personalising items with felt and embroidery.

No experience necessary. Come along and have some festive fun! 6 week course starting November 14th 9.30-11.30 am, no crèche.


Made of Money


A 6 week course to help you build a budget and get top money saving tips. Free 6 week course started Wednesday 13th September 9.30-11.30 am. Free crèche provided.

The course will hopefully run again in the next year so please keep your eyes peeled for future groups.

8 parents completed The Increible Years Parenting Course in 2016/17. The course was 12 weeks long and the parents showed a great commitment to supporting their children and improving family life. Some end of course comments include:
